osTicket Public Roadmap
The osTicket team is excited to announce a public osTicket roadmap! We are finally working on the long awaited osTicket 2.0 – yes we realize the world is now in version 10.0 or whatever!
Here is the truth; the current osTicket UI and codebase is Straight Outta 2000s! That’s for a good reason – that’s how long we’ve been around as a project and it shows! We’ve told ourselves that the functionality was/is more important than the UI/UX – while that holds some water – we know most of you disagree based on feedback we often get from loyal users!
Here is an example of “feedback” a user sent us recently.
Making fun of the elderly is not nice, so I decided to respond in kind!
Of course the feedback was absolutely spot on (hurt feelings aside) – osTicket has been due for a refresh for a long time!
This brings us to the roadmap announcement – we’re completely rewriting the osTicket codebase while giving the UI a much needed refresh. While we have so much to share about future plans, the initial goals are…
- Rewrite backend using a modern PHP framework – Laravel.
- Modernize the frontend / UI using ReactJS
- RESTful API
- Make osTicket themeable and plugable
We know we’ve got the work cut out for us, but we do have an adept team behind the project. It’s my hope that – with a public roadmap and some transparency into what we’re building, we can get help from the community in terms of development as well as feedback from avid users.
Be sure to follow the osTicket Roadmap on GitHub to get updates on the project and please pray for us or simply support osTicket via GitHub Sponsors!
