A newbie question: I want to download osTicket 1.6 . What is the basic difference between RC 1, RC 2 ... RC * versions of 1.6 ?
I am going to use osTicket in an academic environment, so stability is rated higher than "bells & whistles".

RC stands for Release Candidate. RC2 is the latest release. RC3 is due out sometimes this weekend.
In addition to Peter, RC3 will be a more stable version than RC2. There are many bugs (big and small) fixed in this version. So I think it's best to wait for this one. Off course you can already try to play around with RC2, just to get to know the system.

Thanks to you both for the clarification and advice.

I know it's going to be a pain but there really should be a separate forum for each of the RC1 2 3.
Otherwise people will be digging up old posts/workarounds.

I agree - separating things out into the different release candidate versions will certainly make it easier for people to both help others, and be helped in return.
Just my two cents worth

I want to know Peter's opinion as well, but at the moment I don't think it will be a good idea.
The community is not that big yet, making too many forums will give the impression not much is going on. Besides that, the current old versions have simply too many bugs. So the most given advice will probably just be: update to the latest version...
Perhaps this will be a good option for the future.

Good point, didn't really think of the "will seem empty" / "just update already" scenario
I'll have my two cents back, thankyou!
(might need them later!)
Kind regards,
Ebonhand

May be separate forums for stable releases? e.g v1.6.0 vs. v1.6.1

LOL :D
@peter: It might be an idea for stable releases, but I still think it's not necessary atm.
