Hi osTicket community,

My situation - I work for a community college that had an online advising/counseling application that was written by a contractor. When we switched to a new web server with upgraded versions of MySQL and PHP, the application broke. After some weeks, I have given up trying to understand the broken session data model and have decided to go with a new application.

It occurred to me that the features we need are very similar to a customer support/trouble ticket system. The students will send their questions into a database. Counselors with query the database for unanswered questions, and reply to them. Questions and answers are archived along with student and counselor identifying data. Frequently asked questions and answers are to be copied to a knowledge database which is shown to the students on an FAQ page.

I have experience digging into PHP code and changing text to customize an open source application to our branding, so I'm confident that I can do the same with osTicket.

Is there anyone else using osTicket in the same way?

Are there any problems that people can anticipate in my plan?

BTW - congratulations on recovering from Hurricane Katrina!

The way you discribe what you need, osTicket would be great for your purposes. It does everything you stated in the standard release and would require very little modification. We are testing it to replace our current ticketing system and not for education but all the features are there.
