Keep break tags away from the links when adding additional lines

When responding to templates, I will add a link and some additional text. The problem is when I hit the return key it automatically adds a break <br> tag at the end of the link making it invalid.

Below is how it appears:

http://somesite.xx/file.zip
/>

And here is the actual link:

http://somesite.xx/file.zip%3Cbr

How do I keep break tags away from these links when I want to add additional text?

This makes me think of a similar problem in a completely different program. The solution there was kinda simple. Instead of hitting return try holding shift and hitting return.

Don't know if it is applicable to your situation, but it's pretty low risk to try it. :)
