Gmail Setup

I’ve decided to give osTickets another trial, and it’s been a bit troublesome to be honest.
My latest issue is trying to get a Gmail account setup for sending alerts.
osTicket vv1.10.1 (9ae093d)
Windows 2012 R2 - Web Server Software - Microsoft-IIS/8.5
MariaDB - MySQL Version 5.5.37
PHP Version - 5.6.31
Gmail..
IMAP / POP Enabled
Less Secure Apps – ON
Tried
imap.gmail.com with Port: 465
ssl://smtp.gmail.com with Port: 465
tls://smtp.gmail.com with Port: 587
Disabled windows firewall
Oddly I tried ssl://imap.gmail.com and that authenticates, but when sending alerts they only seem to work intermittently.
Error..
Failed to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 (Unknown error) (code: -1, response: )]

    ^ What does this mean?  
    Either the server allows you to connect and send mail or it does not... more details please.

    I'm not sure what else i can tell you, it's the only setting that it accepts (ssl://imap.gmail.com)
    So when testing by creating tickets, in some cases it will send an auto responce, and in other cases it will fail.
    Error in logs..

  • I don't believe this, i've been trying this all day at work and i doesn't work.
    Just accessed the portal from home, tried ssl://smtp.gmail.com and it has just accepted it.
    I'll have a play and see how it goes.

    Just out of curiosity, have you tried Disabling and Re-Enabling the LessSecureApps setting for that account? Also re-entering the email and password into osTicket's email settings would help to.

  • It doesn't make much sense to me that it would work once, and then not the next time... unless there was some soft of firewall appliance or software blocking the second connection...
  • I've completely disabled the windows firewall to test.
    I'll have a look on the network tomorrow.
